They are playing Kyogi Karuta (Competitive Karuta), a Japanese traditional card game.
This is the fifth round of the 64th Queen title match.
The Queen title match decides the strongest female Kyogi Karuta player in Japan (and also in the world), and it is the most prestigious title for female Kyogi Karuta players.

Left: Ere Yamashita (The Queen)
Right: Kyoko Honda (The challenger)

The challenger (wearing black Kimono), Kyoko Honda, won this round in 8 cards, and bagged the Queen title in 2020.
