近江は室町時代から續く日本の代表的な麻織物の産地で、17世紀に彦根藩の振興により發展しました。近江上布は夏の上質な着物地です。絣織と生平があり、生平は手うみの大麻絲を使用し、絣は櫛押捺染、型紙捺染による絣絲を使用しています。

Omi has been Japan's representative hemp textile production area since the Muromachi period (1336-1573), and developed in the 17th century under the promotion of the Hikone Clan. Omi Jofu is a fine summer kimono fabric. There are two types of fabrics: kasuri weave and Kibira. Kibira uses hand-rolled hemp yarn, while kasuri uses kasuri yarn produced by comb-over printing and stencil printing.
