江戸時代末期、甲府市内で御印版を扱う版木師より各種印材による印章が作られていた。水晶研磨術に含まれた水晶印材の製造と、印面に文字を彫る技術の發展は、ツゲ材、水牛材にも及びその印影には唯一不二の趣がある。

lnsho is a seal engraved with the name of an individual. They are used to endorse documents of all kinds as well as to affix to a painting or calligraphy as an artist's signature. Seals using various materials were already being made in Kofu by the seal-engravers by the end of the Edo period The polishing and engraving techniques on rock crystals, which had developed in this region, were applied to other materials such as boxwood and water buffalo bones to craft fine seals. The impressions of the Koshu
lnsho are known to be very artistic.
