約400年前に琉球より堺に傳來し、現在に原型を傳える樂器です。一人の職人が木細工から音響膜の張り作業までを熟すことが特徴。棹部には狂いの少ない南洋堅木材が使われ、專用の道具（鉋・鑿・鋸・鑢）で作られます。音響膜には天然の動物が使用される世界的に珍しい樂器です。

This musical instrument was brought to Sakai from the Ryukyus about 400 years ago, and its original form continues to this day. It is characterized by the fact that a single craftsman masters everything from the woodwork to the installation of the acoustic membrane. The shaft is made of South Sea hardwood, which has few warps, and is made using special tools (plane, chisel, saw, and chisel). This is a unique musical instrument in the world where natural animals are used for the acoustic membrane.
