江戸時代より「歳の市」が行われる淺草周邊で多く生産されてきた江戸押繪は、關東大震災や戰災による疎開などのため、現在は生産者が近縣にもいます。かつては江戸三座といわれる芝居小屋が淺草にあり、歌舞伎の着物、裝束、風俗などを題材に、日本畫の畫法も交えながら發展し現在に至っています。

Since the Edo era, a Lunar New Year Fair was held in Asakusa, where a large number of Edo Oshi-e Pictures on Embossed Fabric were created. However, due to evacuations necessary after the Great Kanto Earthquake and wartime damage, many producers also reside in neighboring prefectures. In the past, there was a small theater in Asakusa called Edo-za.
Here, the ideas behind the clothing, decoration and customs of kabuki intermingled with the world of Japanese drawing and painting, developing to make the Edo Oshi-e of today possible.
