愛媛縣西條市■石鎚神社 お山開き大祭

靈峰・石鎚山。四國固有の種や絶滅危惧種なども生息するこの山は、樣々な動植物の生命を育み、自然の寶庫とも言われている。
石鎚山を神が宿る山として崇拜する石鎚神社では、古くより繼承される祭禮が存在する。3體の御神像を山頂の社まで奉遷する「お山開き大祭」である。期間中は全國から數萬人が登拜するといわれ、その賑わいから「お山市」とも呼ばれている。
御神像を背負った信徒たちは梅雨時の險しい險しい山道を驅け上がり、頂上手前の鎖場では御神像を背負った擔ぎ手を一本のロープを使い信徒たちが息を合わせて一氣に引き上げる。山頂に到着後、御神體を背中に押し當てる『御神像拜戴』が執り行われ、年に一度の賑わいを見せる。
人々はなぜ過酷な祭禮に參加するのか。人々を掻き立てるその魅力に迫る。

The sacred Mt. Ishizuchi is home to numerous endemic species and endangered species of Shikoku, nurturing a variety of flora and fauna, making it a treasure trove of nature. At Ishizuchi Shrine, where the mountain is venerated as a dwelling place of the divine, there exists a longstanding ceremonial festival. This is the "Oyama Biraki Taisai," during which three sacred statues are enshrined at the mountain's peak. It is said that tens of thousands of pilgrims climb during the festival period, and due to its vibrant atmosphere, it is also referred to as "Oyama-ichi."

Devotees carrying the sacred statues ascend the steep mountain paths during the rainy season. As they approach the summit, the bearers of the statues are swiftly pulled up the cliff using a single rope, with the collective effort of the believers. Upon reaching the summit, a ritual called "Goshinzou Haitai," where the sacred statues are pressed against the backs of the participants, is conducted, bringing a once-a-year vibrancy to the mountain.
