無印良品は世界の洗濯の風景を求めて旅に出ました。布が太陽の光を浴び、風にそよいで乾いていく。そんな世界共通の營みに、水や空氣のように暮らしを支えたいという無印良品の思いを重ね、自分たちのあるべき姿を見つめ直しました。

世界中から人々が集うヒンドゥー教の巡禮地のひとつ。川沿いに續くガートと呼ばれるスペースは近隣の人々の物干しにも使われており、シーツやサリーが暑い日差しを受けて瞬く間に乾いていきます。聖地と人々の營みが隣り合う、特徴的な光景が廣がる場所です。

MUJI set out on a journey to capture laundry scenes from around the world. Bathed in sunlight and swaying in the breeze, clothes dry naturally in the open air. Focusing on this simple, universal ritual, MUJI has reflected on our aspiration to support and enrich daily life, like air and water, encouraging us to rethink the direction we should be taking.

Varanasi is one of the important pilgrimage destinations for Hindu devotees from around the world. The area along the river known as a ghat serves as a spot for locals to dry their clothes. In the hot sun, sheets and saris dry in a flash. The blending of a sacred space with the daily activities of the community creates a distinctive and vibrant scene.
